Following a cosmological perspective Mahatma Gandhi acknowledged human existence comprising of body, mind and soul. His realization of truth (Satya) as God and service (Seva) to fellow beings as central to human life provided the foundation for a comprehensive ethical vision. Indeed, Mahatma Gandhi's life characterizes a constant journey towards formulation of truth as a key value in human life. His personal, social and political encounters in South Africa and subsequently in the colonial India led to evolution of the unique strategy of non-violence (Ahimsa) to pursue truth. The comprehensive view of life offered by Mahatma Gandhi criticizes modernity and contextualize human endeavor in harmony with nature and argued for educational and economic institutions for indigenous (Svadeshi) and sustainable development of everybody (Sarvodaya), dignity of human labor (Sharir shram) leading to self-rule (Svaraj).
